Frequently Asked Questions

Is an estate planning attorney right for me?

Estate planning is everything related to someone not having the ability to manage their life, both financial and personal, whether they are disabled, deceased, or planning for it.

Someone else has to make decisions, either from instructions left for them or without guidance. Either way, taking over someone else's life can be a lot to handle.

It involves people in close relationships during a crisis, trying to divide money and property. It's not an easy situation.

If this describes you, then you're in the right place.

How do you charge for estate planning services?

Some services, including drafting wills and trusts, can be done for a flat fee. The time involved is pretty straightforward.

Probate has a set percentage rate based on the value of the estate's assets, and payment is made at the end from the estate's assets.

Disputes are hourly or contingent fees (we only get paid if you win). Depending on your role, you might be able to pay out of the deceased's estate.

Do I really need an attorney?

I don't know. But I'll tell you if you don't or if you can proceed in a way that limits how much you have to pay me.

It's always a cost-benefit analysis. So it depends on your situation.

Do I need to meet with you in person?

I like to meet clients in person. But on many matters, it's not required.

The first step is to contact my office and see if I can help you and if you're comfortable with my style and approach.
